RODRÍGUEZ-ABRUÑEIRAS, PAULA

Paula Rodríguez-Abruñeiras obtained an MA in English Language and Literature from the University of Santiago de Compostela in June 2006. In September 2008 she joined the Department of English and German at Santiago de Compostela on a four-year FPU grant from the Spanish Ministry for Education and Science; she completed her PhD in English Linguistics, under the supervision of María José López-Couso, in January 2015.

Paula has carried out research at the Department of English of the University of Helsinki (September 2007-May 2008), at the Department of Linguistics and English Language of the University of Manchester (September-November 2009), at the Department of English of the University of Freiburg (September-December 2010), and at the British Library (July 2011), on an ESSE bursary. In November 2009 she received one of the annual awards granted to junior investigators by AEDEAN, the Spanish Association for Anglo-American Studies.

From August 2013 to May 2015 Paula was an assistant of Spanish at the Department of Spanish and Portuguese of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she also completed a two-year M.A. Degree in Spanish. On 1 May 2015 she received the Premio Gabriela Mistral, awarded by Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, to outstanding graduate or undergraduate students of Spanish.

Between September 2015 and January 2016, Paula held a visiting lecturer position at the Department of English, French and German of the University of Vigo. In February 2016 she joined the Department of English and German at the University of Valencia, on a position as Lecturer ('ayudante doctor') in English.

Paula has recently developed an interest in research on New Englishes, and has now joined the ViEW team (‘Variation in English Worldwide’) directed by Elena Seoane at the University of Vigo.
